Objectives of Legal Education in India

As a professional training, legal education enables law students to fulfill various roles in society and fulfill various legal professions. In the modern democratic society, whose scope and scope are constantly expanding; For example — policy makers, lawyers, law professors, administrators, etc. As a result, it is recognized in modern India that there should be extensive legal education. Legal education should aim to provide skills and competences, basic philosophies and ideologies to create and maintain a just society[9]. It must raise society`s awareness to recognise its problems and ensure social and economic justice through the rule of law and eradicate injustice, poverty, corruption and nepotism from society. Legal education is synonymous with improving human sensitivity and provides a sense of protection of human freedom and equality before the law. The legal studies curriculum should be considered in terms of its objectives. Andreas J. Pirie suggested that the systematic instructional design process can include four important steps:(1) Performance analysis – it focuses on identifying the educational goals needed by consumers of legal education. It can be used as a mechanism to determine whether there is a significant difference between what a person can already do and what they are supposed to do and, if there is a significant difference, whether an instruction or other course of action is appropriate. The goal is what the student will learn.

(2) Task analysis is a serious attempt to identify exactly what the student needs to know or do to achieve the goal. It is a careful description of what the competent person does or is expected to do in the performance of his or her duties. (3) A capability analysis describes an attempt to determine the steps a person must take to achieve the goal. It includes informational skills, intellectual or psychomotor abilities. The capability analysis breaks down each of these identified steps into its components. However, if the steps involve higher intellectual abilities such as application, analysis, synthesis or evaluation, the analysis of skills becomes more complex. Capability analysis may involve creating a much longer list of behaviors needed, depending on the task. (4) Performance analysis writing is the stage where the teacher and student are able to understand what a person needs to know or do to accomplish their task.

Legal education is designed to develop a dual skill – (1) effective learning – is a step required to competently perform a number of tasks, such as questioning a client or preparing for cross-examination of a witness. (2) Ability to remember facts communicated by the client. Effective listening is a step in competently performing a number of tasks, such as interviewing a client or preparing for cross-examination of a witness. The ability to remember the facts that the client communicates is another skill that the lawyer`s legal education must develop. These features can be generated by performance goals, which include three requirements: performance, conditions, and standards. The aim of legal education is to revolutionise the traditional legal system by developing the skills of each law graduate in terms of advising clients, effectively questioning witnesses and negotiating with the parties at the right time.[10] It must train the lawyer not only to solve the problems of the individual client, but also those of the society in which he lives, in order to contribute to a better understanding of the laws that unite the societies[11]. A respected judge, S.B. Majumdar, pointed out that one aspect of legal education is to provide adequate training, which should be provided by professionals. It must allow the law student to think like a lawyer, familiarize him with the basic concepts and principles of law and lead him to acquire the basic skills that are the tools of any lawyer. Only a well-trained lawyer helps the court to settle cases quickly and correctly, does justice to the litigant public and thus also helps his client. The main goal of today`s legal education should be to provide the next generation with «the accumulated knowledge» on managing the legal process. The student should be able to get a complete picture of their legal system.

The fundamental objective should be to provide knowledge of principles rather than detailed rules. Legal education is the multidisciplinary subject that requires the inclusion of the welfare of society and is possible for lawyers in India. Legal education serves the citizens of India and communicates their strengths.
